Edit the schedule for updating subscriptions

The Schedule tab enables you to alter the update schedule for the site. Click here for more details on schedule options.

Your own custom schedule can be set up

Clicking the Schedule tab's New or Edit buttons opens the Custom Schedule dialog. This lets you set the timings of a new or existing update schedule. The update can be performed every x days (or every weekday), and either at one specified time each day, or every x hours (optionally between a start and end time, such as 08:00 to 18:00). Checking the 'Varies exact time' box allows IE to perform its updates at randomly chosen times close to the specified point, so you don't clash with other users attempting to download at an exact time.

Each schedule has a name (one called 'Daily' is supplied as standard), and you can associate as many subscriptions as you like with each schedule. When a schedule is triggered, IE 4 dials up the Internet (if you use a dial-up connection) and updates all the subscriptions (and Channels) associated with that schedule. By creating multiple schedules, you can update different subscriptions at appropriate intervals, for example checking a newswire every two hours, and a newsletter once a week.
